Like everything in this day and age,it is important that we receive Instruction from a Qualified Professional who has taken time to become Licensed and qualified in a chosen discipline.

I am very fortunate that my hobby is also work,so being Full time I take it very seriously and enjoy every part of it and with fun and professionalism.Along with two others partners,we have a superb, long established trout fishery www.morayflyfishing.co.uk which is a very popular fishery with excellent facilities which can make your day out with family and friends a lasting experience.

For over 39 years I have fly fished and seen many changes and do not enter into the politics of any Instructor associations as I consider my own abilities, are tested with each person I teach and judged by them and it is recommendations which promote any instructor, as all have their own individuality and each should be judged as such and not by their associations to a particular Instructor organisation.

For myself,I am an APGAI Qualified Instructor and a fly tying Instructor and also a Federation of Flyfishers Certified Instructor (FFFCI), I am first aid trained and disclosure checked(CRB) and fully insured and fully licensed.I have also completed and deliver the new level 2 UKCC coach in game angling in Scotland with Adbos and an A1 assessor.

All of which has taken time and hard work to acheive and very important to me and continued practice and progression is essential ,so as I can give my best to those who I teach.

I am a regular Columnist In the "Trout Fisherman" magazine and others in the past also, which I enjoy and do with alot of pride,as with anything I do.

One word of caution when choosing an Instructor.
Please ensure whoever you choose, has done a Proper casting assessment with a recognised association to become an Instructor and NOT just a written exam and NO technical casting examanation to call themselves either "Instructor" or "Coach". ASK to see some evidence of their Qualification. There is a difference between them. An Instructor can be both Coach and Instructor.A Coach can be a Coach ONLY without doing any casting assessment. There is a Huge difference so check check check.

My Main aim is to offer and give a good all round service to those I teach and give them a life long source of advice where they can contact me anytime and ask questions on the sport of fly fishing.

Attending Game Fayres doing casting clinics and always critical of myself and my own skills ,I strive to improve all the time and practice regular, so as I can give anglers a first class service and also it is a sport where you can never peak at ,so you need to improve all the time,no matter how good you feel you are.

For a full list of all Qualified and licensed Instructors check www.gameanglinginstructors.co.uk and also www.fedflyfishers.org

Fly casting is no different to any sport, except that it is relaxing and enjoyable and not like being back at school.Lessons are done in beautiful surroundings which show why it is the "gentle art of fly fishing" and you will never stop learning this art.
It is a hobby which can lead to learning other skills like fly tying, entomolgy and even casting itself is a seperate skill and hobby for some. The main thing is that you get off on the right footing and learn the basics.
I have seen rods broken, thrown on the ground and even thrown into the water out of sheer frustration while trying to teach your self.It should be enjoyable and relaxing and is a sport for ALL men, women and children and excludes no one and gives something back to society and community and helps preserve and protect wildlife and countryside in ways that are not understood by some unless you are part of it.

Tuition is held from 1st April to 1st Nov each year and booking is essential and weather permitting for health and safety.

Lessons can be at a place of your choice and depends on species you want to fish for.(Travel expenses for over 5 miles) They can be designed around your requirements.

Typical Lesson for beginners, Adult:- 2 hours plus 2 hours fishing

(Lessons for juniors, from 10 to 15, are only done in upto 1 hour sessions or as required).

Where you are taught how to Roll cast and Overhead cast. These are the basic casts for all your fishing needs and once mastered form an essential part of other casts later in your progression in fly casting.Stance ,grip and tackle basics are also covered but it is the casting which is important.
Other more advanced casts can also be taught and faults rectified for the more advanced angler.

Then:-

You have 2 hours of self practice in realtime fishing and the chance to catch a fish.Help is always at hand should you require it. In Total it is 4 hours.

Is that it? NO! I am available to you for the rest of your fishing life and all you need to do is to contact me should you wish any advice on tackle or any other fishing related matter, wherever you are in the world and I will always give you honest advice and not a sales talk.I will not advise you on anything I have not used myself and if I dont know, I will find out for you.
